W45A0581As well as the sensory experience, the ship will transmit knowledge in a playful way, expanding children’s cultural competence. Above all, it will encourage creativity and imagination. A visit to the ship will mark the culmination of an interdisciplinary schools’ programme, involving science, German, art and other subjects. Schools signing up for the programme will be provided with special “log books” for the children. The log books and accompanying teaching materials help teachers prepare pupils for their visit to the ship, and later with follow-up work, with activities that take up six lessons in all.

This programme has been made possible by the Olbricht Foundation in cooperation with the Helga Breuninger Stiftung, the Campus Hannah Höch, the Gustav-Falke-Primary School, the Primary School at the Koppenplatz and the Wilhelm-Hauff-Primary School. The programme is free of charge for schools. The renovation of the ship was undertaken in cooperation with Potsdam Fachhochschule.

The project is/was being supported by the Plattform Kulturelle Bildung Brandenburg, the Ministry for Science, the Research and Culture, the Ministry of Economics and Technology, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of Brandenburg, the Mittelbrandenburgische Sparkasse and the State Office for School and Teacher Education Brandenburg. In 2018 the programme will be supported by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture due to a resolution of the German Bundestag.

The ship is open to the public from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The ship’s docking schedule can be found here.
