Honey Amber

In the last week on board, pupils* of the Gustav-Falke Primary School taught. They were out and about in Eisenhüttenstadt and Fürstenwalde and had intensive discussions with the elementary school pupils about the Wunderkammer topics. The children were particularly fascinated by the large honey-coloured amber and the old amber necklace.

Impressions

The mediator children on the Wunderkammerschiff have a lot of fun on board in addition to their role as mediators. Here are some impressions.

Of sailors* and famous unicorns

On 6.10.1492 Columbus’ sailors sighted Hispaniola at the lookout after 53 days at sea. On board the primary school Wildau with many curious passengers and famous unicorns.

From Storkow to Prieros and Wildau

After a home game for the mediator children of the European School Storkow in Storkow and the visit of primary schoolgirls* from Friedersdorf, the pupils of the Evangelische Schule Berlin Zentrum have now taken over the rudder and mediate curious and mysterious objects in Prieros and Wildau. In the afternoon between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., the ship will be open to interested visitors*.

Wonders of nature

The Berlin intermediary children have left and since Wednesday the Wunderkammerexpert*innen from Storkow have taken over the programme.
After the last visitor class leaves at about 13.30, the ship will be open for visitors from 15.00 to 17.00. We have captured and documented the voice of a visitor: I think it’s good that the students can tell so much about the wonders of nature!

Cast off – The summer break is over!

The Wunderkammerschiff is back from the summer break and now lies in Storkow (Mark). Children from the Hannah Höch campus and children from the Storkow European School have been trained as Wunderkammerexpert*innen (miracle chamber experts*) and together they mediate the programme to primary school children. Particularly beautiful are the fantasy stories and poems that the mediator children have come up with about individual objects…they are about palm trees that suddenly get legs and run to the sea or about mysterious shells with which you can phone to the other end of the world.

In Mildenberg

Now we are on the last day in the Ziegeleipark Mildenberg and are looking forward to the classes. How fast the spring tour passed by. Now the Wunderkammerschiff is going into the summer break and we will be back in August!

Leisure time in Liebenwalde

The children from the Gustav Falke School explored the city after the guided tours and workshops on board. Whether visiting the fire brigade museum and a subsequent fire brigade exercise on board or a swim in the water – they had a lot of fun!

Liebenwalde and the sea

Since Monday children of the Gustav Falke School have been placing on board. They arrived together with music teacher Juliane Tief and as you can see they have a lot to do! For example the daily ship routine “Rein Schiff” in the morning. Joseph Conrad, a Polish-British writer, commented on this in his book “Der Spiegel der See – Erinnerungen und Eindrücke”, published in 1906: “The ship routine is a great comforter for sore hearts and woe to thoughts. I have seen her appease the most impetuous spirits. She heals, brings peace and contentment with the completed cycle, because every day of life on board seems to close a circle in the wide ring of the horizon. The majestic monotony of the sea gives a certain value to this monotony of the ship’s routine, and those who love the sea love it too.”

The floating armadillo

Today and tomorrow we were in Marienwerder and the second group from the primary school at Koppenplatz arrived accompanied by Lisa Kastner and mediated on board. What would a ship be without its crew? Since Monday the artist Ingo Mittelstaedt is also on board, who supports the ship team and welcomes the visitor classes together with the mediator children Max, Paul and Haroun. It is nice to see that the mediation is a lot of fun and joy for everyone involved and that it never gets boring. Did you know that an armadillo can walk short distances under water? There are some species that can swim. They pump air into the stomach and intestines beforehand so that they do not sink into their armour.

From Schwedt to Eberswalde

Amadina, Lucia and Senan from the elementary school at Koppenplatz mediate on the Wunderkammerschiff since this week and the compass rose is also used.

Treasures from the Stone Age

Elementary school students* from the Astrid Lindgren Primary School in Schwedt were on board and brought their own treasures with them. We especially liked a petrified fossil in a flint stone. We wondered which creature could have left its imprint in this stone? Probably the imprint of a sea urchin shell.

The legendary Coco de Mer

After exciting days in Gartz we are now in Schwedt (Oder), the first national park town in Germany.
The Wunderkammerschiff is surrounded by a lake-rich and varied landscape and fascinating wildlife.
But also on board there is always something to discover. Do you know the Coco de Mer?
The primary schoolgirls* of the Freie Evangelische Schule from Schwedt and the primary school “Astrid Lindgren”
were guests and were amazed at this and many other Wunderkammer objects.

Of mythical creatures and other strange things…

A small mythical creature visited us on board yesterday, and it was a great pleasure!
After the workshops with the primary school children we went on an exploration tour through the city.
In the morning we received new classes from the primary school Gartz. Have you ever seen a compass rose made of children?

The Wunderkammerschiff is on tour again!

The Wunderkammerschiff has arrived in Gartz (Oder), and the children of the Evangelische Schule Berlin Mitte are looking forward to curious primary school children who will come on board.
Today and tomorrow, the Gartz Primary school will be a guest and will follow in the stories of the unicorn.
Perhaps there are other mythical creatures to discover as well?
