Performance with Faye Green, Emma Waltraud Howes and Yurie Ido on 20 September 2014, 4 p.m.

Following the Curator’s Guided tour a performance takes place with Faye Green, Emma Waltraud Howes and Yurie Ido on Saturday 20 September 2014, 4 p.m.

The exhibition ‘EXOTICA and 4 other cases of the self’ explores questions of the self in the society, seen through the prism of contemporary works of art and historical Wunderkammer objects from the Olbricht Collection. Categories which once served to master the human knowledge in cabinets of curiosities are now recontextualised and attempt an analysis on different features in human beings. As core element of the exhibition, the performance event further develops the theme of self-exploration. Artists Faye Green, Emma Waltraud Howes and Yurie Ido respond to the categories of the show through their personal work. Focusing on naturalia/instincts and mirabilia/oddities with performative readings, dance and movements in unexpected spaces they engage the audience and create new perspectives on the concept of the exhibition.
Within EXOTICA… and 4 other cases of the self, the invention of new categories calls for a re-questioning of the systems of classification and a repositioning of the self in contemporary society. The performers address this subject with their active response to the exhibition.
