The dual exhibition ‘Transverse Wave’ considers a dialogue between the work of the German artist Mary Bauermeister (*1934) and the works of the Bahraini artist Rashid Al Khalifa (*1952), both of whom are supported and constantly redefined by the sound installation of the German composer, Simon Stockhausen (*1967). Superficial differences between the artworks are set aside, allowing for deep-seated principles of construction to become visually and auditively tangible. The motif of the ‘Wave’ represents a given, unchanging factor, though not understood in any purely formalistic manner. Rather, the expanded sense of light and sound waves, in which there is an interaction between the artworks at every level, is explored.
